The New is a regeneration of an urban plaza and an underground co妹妹ercial space, a small project of larger issues in urban renewal. With an institutional approach to co妹妹ercial architecture that focuses on public place-making, the design reunites once divided urban and co妹妹ercial spaces by breaking physical and conceptual demarcation of the ground and merging public realm with co妹妹ercial spaces. Nested in lush landscape, the hidden destination carries metaphoric references to Chinese ideas and the site's history to ensure that the resurrected place is aesthetically distinctive and contextually adaptive.
AIA Shanghai | Beijing Design Awards was founded in 2018. The AIA Shanghai / Beijing Design Excellence Awards Program showcases innovation in architecture, interior architecture, and urban planning.
